They’ve already turned the newsroom into a bowling alley. Why shouldn’t the publisher’s dining room on the 11th floor of the old New York Times headquarters be turned into a basketball court?

Equity Office, an affiliate of the Blackstone Group and the new owner of the upper 12 floors of the 15-story building at 229 West 43rd Street, imagines that prospective office occupants will have a hard time getting the image out of their minds.

A 12th-floor terrace has also been landscaped with artificial grass, paving stones and lawn furniture, in the hope that prospects will be reminded of a certain other swath of open space up in the air. “This is our High Line,” Josh Glick, the asset manager for Equity Office, said hopefully.
